25K Relay

The 25K Relay is a non-competitive and fun way to run the 25K course, along with bragging rights if you are the fastest team.

A 25K Relay team consists of two to three participants who will run the entire 25K (15.5 miles) distance. Each participant will run one leg that ranges from 3 to 7 miles. For two member teams, one member must run two consecutive legs.

Course Information
  • Start on Monroe Avenue at Lyon Street – finish on Ottawa Avenue at Lyon Street
  • Baby joggers, bicycles, rollerblades, skateboards and animals are not allowed on the course.

Registration Fees and Deadlines
  • The Relay group captain will create a group and share the special URL and password with other team members to register online no later than Tuesday, May 5 by 11:59p (edt).
  • Event Check-in on Friday, May 8 from 11a -8p at the Sports & Fitness Expo, DeVos Place, 303 Monroe Ave, Grand Rapids and Saturday, May 9 beginning at 6a.
  • NO REGISTRATION/CHANGES AVAILABLE ON EVENT DAY!
  • Participants will receive a t-shirt, finisher medal, post-event refreshments and a free beverage ticket for the Finish Fest on Calder Plaza.
  • Upgrade to a tech shirt for $19.78 when you register (Quantity limited/no exchanges.  Not available at late registration on Friday, May 8.)
  • Save $5.30 off one event fee with a Fifth Third Bank credit or debit card.  (Valid for one registration per transaction and cannot be combined with other offers.)

Relay Instructions
  • Wear your participant bib with the Chronotrack B-Tag attached to the fornt of your shirt for best results/scoring.
  • Wear your "RELAY” bib on the back.
  • Results will reflect the total team time
  • Relay split times will be reflected in total team time (team member must cross scoring mats at each respective exchange zone for split time to be recorded)
  • Relay team members must complete the "leg" in the stated time to receive transportation back to the Relay transportation zone on Monroe Avenue, near Michigan St.   If a team member cannot complete the "leg" in the stated time - they can request race transportation at the next aid station.  Non- emergency medical related transports will receive priority.
  • Each 25K Relay team member will receive a finisher medal

Leg #1 participants (6.77 miles)
25K Start Line to Butterworth/Wilson

  • Leg #1 begins at the Start Line located on Monroe Avenue near Lyon Street.
  • Leg #1 participants should stage in the appropriate pace per mile area of the start line.
  • Leg #1 participants may bag their gear (or give to a group member) and place it on the appropriate Exchange Zone bus (bags are available at the loading zone on Michigan Street between Monroe Avenue and Ottawa Avenue – be sure to attached the gear check tag from your bib). The Amway River Bank Run cannot be responsible for lost items.
  • Participants must complete this "leg" of 6.77 miles no later than 9:50a (a 12 minute mile pace or 1 hour 20 minutes). Average pace per mile is 7:48
  • The Relay team member must complete the "leg" in the stated time to receive transportation back to the Relay transportation zone on Monroe Avenue, near Michigan St.  If a team member does not complete the "leg" in the stated time and miss the bus - transportation is available at the next aid station.  Non- emergency medical related transports will receive priority.
  • The bus will leave Exchange Zone 2 at 9:50a for downtown.

Leg #2 participants (5.37 miles) Leg 2 Exchange Zone Map
Butterworth/Wilson to Butterworth/O’Brien
  • Board the Exchange Zone bus, located on Michigan Street (between Monroe Avenue and Ottawa Avenue) by 8:40a for transport to Butterworth/Wilson
  • Leg #2 participants may bag gear (or give to a team member) and place it on the bus for Exchange Zone 3 at Butterworth/O’Brien. Bags located at the loading zone – be sure to attach your gear check tag from your bib). The Amway River Bank Run cannot be responsible for lost items.
  • Relay member must complete this "leg" of 5.37 miles no later than 10:55am (a 12 minute mile pace or 1 hour 4 minutes). Average pace per mile is 9:13
  • Relay team member must complete the "leg" in the stated time to receive transportation downtown to the Relay transportation zone on Monroe Avenue, near Michigan Street.  If a team member cannot complete the "leg" in the stated time and miss the bus - transportation is available at the next aid station.   Non- emergency medical related transports will receive priority.
  • The bus will leave Exchange Zone 3 at 10:55a for downtown.

Butterworth/O’Brien to Finish Line

  • Board the Exchange Zone bus, located on Michigan Street (between Monroe Avenue and Ottawa Avenue) by  9:00a for transport to Butterworth/O’Brien.
  • Bag your gear at the official Gear Check in DeVos Place – be sure to attach your gear check tag from your bib).
  • Participants must complete this "leg" of 3.36 miles prior to the course closing at 12:00p.  The average pace per is 9:21.
  • Plan to reunite with group members at the  Finish Fest on Calder Plaza.

Relay Exchange Zones
  • There is a single staging area at each Relay Exchange Zone.
  • Volunteers will be on-site to direct you to the Exchange Zone.
  • It is the responsibility of Relay member to know when their group member will be arriving at the appropriate Exchange Zone. This can be approximated by knowing each member’s running pace to estimate when they will arrive.  Track your team by using the RaceJoy app.
  • Water and post-race refreshments is available on the bus that will return participants running Legs #1 and #2 to downtown.
  • Portable restrooms and medical support is available at Exchange Zones.
  • Aid Station #8 is located just past the Exchange Zone for the last leg when entering the race course be aware that 25K participants may be getting refreshments from both sides of the road.

Scoring 

  • Wear your participant bib with the the Chronotrack B-Tag attached to the front of your shirt for best results/scoring.
  • RELAY bib on back of shirt.
  • Participant bib/B-Tag does not need to be returned after your event.
